George Clooney signing autographs in Salisbury, N.C. 3/26I think I freaked Matthew and Ron out when the newscast announced in March that George Clooney and “his closest friends” were going to be in town the next day. Of course, I morphed into a 16-year-old babbling chick out of my mind. When Ron woke up on March 26, I was showered, dressed and ready to meet the man. He was caught a little off-guard and Matthew was confused – he couldn’t understand why people get crazy and stand in line to meet a guy.

Despite the fact that I printed the directions, Ron still managed to try to drive to the wrong place!

We only had to wait about 30-45 minutes for him to show up at the train station, and ”his closest friends” was Renee Zellwegger, which is his co-start in the movie. She was so nice and her voice is so soft and sweet.

There was actually a good turn-out with the crowd, which kind of surprised me. It was Spring Break around here so I was hoping everyone was gone! Ron had Matthew on his shoulders and took photos while I leaned in to get autographs. The PR people with them said no photos with the stars because there just wasn’t enough time to stop for all of us and do that.

George Clooney touched Matthew’s head and chatted with him for a few seconds, admiring his eyes (who doesn’t?). Matthew looked like he was done — the excitement wasn’t catching on for him and then when George walked up to us, Matthew got a little shy and buried his face. He did look up though and smile.

I’m a dork though – I announced that we were never going to wash Matthew’s hair again because George touched it; then I called Tiff back home (who, by the way, is the only reason I even look at George Clooney) and gave her the details.

Matthew, Starbear & Mr. Dang

Matthew, Star Bear (preschool
project for a week) & Mr. Dang

Matthew’s first Taekwondo tournament in mid-March was the first event for us. He did great through warm-up session, but was shy and nervous when it was time to show the panel of judges a series of moves. He still earned an Olympic-style medal for his effort.

Mr. Dang runs an awesome program at Lake Norman Taekwondo. he really makes it fun for the little guys and emphasizes manners and obedience. Really, they are only four years old right? How much board-breaking do you want these toddlers to do anyway? (None, they are dangerous enough at this stage).

Right now, Matthew is working on earning his second belt, which I think he needs eight stripes – he’s about half-way there. He’s earned stripes for knowing the five tenants (courtesy, indomitable spirit, integrity, perseverance and self-control), knowing his RIGHT and LEFT and using self-control (standing still, being quiet when necessary).

I’m not sure why he earned the others — sometimes this stuff comes at us faster than we can keep up – but we’ll upload more photos as he works his way to earning another stripe.

Welcome!

Okay – so here’s the deal: we’ve never been good about calling people back.

Sort of. I could probably hold various conversations on multiple phones – sort of like those people you see with three monitors on their desk. Super multi-tasking. That’s me. Ron, on the other hand? Enough said already…

Now add to the fact that we’re busy as heck and lucky if we remember to feed our kid. Speaking of which, where is he? I think I saw him last on Thursday when I went to the grocery store. Or the post office. Where did I go?

Wait a minute. I think Ron took him last. Hm, now it’s got me thinking…

Oh boy. Houston, we have a problem…

Well, this is certainly no time to panic. Priorities people! We have a blog to show off. Which brings me to my point: The Bergman Family Blog.

Enjoy. Now I have to go find a cute 5-year-old. Seen him lately?
